Color Component Based Image Fractal Compression Mechanism

Abstract


The traditional fractal compression technique is a lossy compression technique and it is  based on the self-similarities in the image. Initially fractal technique  is applied on the gray level images. In case of color images, the image is first represented in gray level and then the fractal coding is applied. This paper presents a new fractal compression mechanism for  color images. This proposed framework first extracts the image data in to RGB channel arrays and then applies fractalization. The color component values  are compared between two blocks instead of checking the color values. Mapping is carried out by flipping the blocks vertically, horizontally and rotating the blocks by   90, 180 and 270 degrees. The same process can be applied separately  for three color components. Performance analysis is carried out for both traditional fractalization and for the proposed color component based fractalization and the  results are compared.
