Abstract

Nanocrystalline TiO2 thin films have been prepared by sol-gel dip coating method. The TiO2 thin films have been coated on glass substrates with different molar concentrations. The X- ray diffraction pattern shows that TiO2 nanocrystalline thin films are of anatase structure and the grain size is found to be in the range of 22-38 nm. The HRTEM image shows that the average size of the particles ranges from ~20-35 nm and is in agreement with XRD results. The surface topography of the films has been as sensitizer. Anthocyanin pigments extracted from Clitoria ternatea are used for the fabrication of dye sensitized solar cells. Absorption spectra of clitoria ternatea sensitized nanocrystalline TiO2 thin films shows a small shift towards longer wavelength side. The natural dye clitoria ternatea can be used as sensitizer to sensitize TiO2 films and the natural dye sensitized TiO2 can be used as photoelectrode in photoelectrochemical solar cells.
