Structural Properties of Hydrothermally Grown Zinc Oxide Nano Rods for Solar Applications

Abstract


ZnO nanorods were prepared using hydrothermal method and their Structural and Optical properties were studied.  ZnO seed layer thin films were prepared by dip coating technique on to well cleaned glass substrate using Zinc acetate as starting material. ZnO nanorods were grown by hydrothermal method by immersing ZnO seed-coated glass substrates in aqueous solution of Zinc nitrate and Hexamethylenetetramine (HMT) for 5 hours at different growth temperatures of 80°C, 90°C and 100°C  and annealed at 500°C.   The prepared ZnO nanorods were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Experimental results reveal that the prepared ZnO nano rods shows increase in c-axis orientation at the growth temperature of 90°C.  This ZnO nanorods paves the way to use in the solar cell applications.
