Preparation and Characterization of Ni Doped ZnO Thin Film by Sol-Gel Dip Coating Technique

Abstract


Nickel doped Zinc Oxide thin films have been deposited on glass substrates by using sol gel dip coating technique.  ZnO thin films with different concentrations of Ni doping are prepared by dip coating method. The influence of the Ni doping concentration on the structural and optical properties of Ni doped ZnO thin films were characterized by X-Ray diffraction, SEM with EDX, UV respectively. The structural parameters are calculated from X-Ray diffraction and the films showed hexagonal crystal structure and no other phase was found. Scanning electron microscope shows that the irregular grains with average grain size was found and EDX indicates that the presence of average percentage of Ni, Zn, O elements. The optical properties of absorbance and transmittance were measured by using UV/Vis/NIR Spectrometer in the wave length range of 200 - 800 nm. It is found that enhanced optical activity is due to increase in surface imperfection due to Ni doping on ZnO thin films.
