STRUCTURAL OPTICAL AND ELECTRICAL PROPERTIES OF ZnO AND Al DOPED ZnO THIN FILMS PREPARED BY SPRAY PYROLYSIS

Abstract


Zinc oxide and Aluminum doped zinc oxide thin films were prepared on glass substrates under the optimized conditions by spray pyrolysis technique and their properties were investigated. The XRD pattern of the film showed polycrystalline nature and they have hexagonal Wurtzite structure.

An interesting modification has been observed that the preferential orientation of the crystalline lattice in the film changes for (0 0 2) and (1 0 1) on increasing A1 doping concentration. The SEM analysis indicates that there is a decrease in crystallite size with increase of Al content.

Through UV analysis it was found that band gap decreases from 3.24 to 3.06 eV with increase of Al content from 5% to 20%. DC conductivity increases with increase in temperature. On increasing the doping concentration the conductivity to a maximum value of 0.01342 S/cm. From the studies 15 at % Al sample is more suitable for further applications.
