UV Attenuation Characteristics of Titanium and Tin Doped Zno Ceramics

Abstract


Wide band gap and UV attenuating ability makes Zinc stannates (ZTO) and Zinc titanates suitable for wide range of applications. Here, we report the synthesis of these ceramics without the use of any surfactants via hydrothermal method which is an attractive green process, carried out at low temperatures. This study investigated i) the UV attenuating  behaviour of  ZnO ceramics doped with Tin and Titanium and ii) morphological evolution of the corresponding ceramics. We have kept the thermodynamic parameters such as reaction medium, time of crystal formation, pH of reaction medium and temperature constant during the whole process. High crystallinity of the samples was observed by X rayDiffraction studies and the chemical compositions were confirmed by Energy dispersive spectra (EDS). Both the samples are basically ZnO doped with Ti and Sn prepared via same procedure, but shows different morphology which is clear from Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) results. Tin doped sample shows comparatively good morphology-uniformly arranged cubic shaped samples.  Diffuse reflectance spectra analysis showed that the UV absorption characteristic of ZnO doped with Ti is comparatively higher than that of Sn doped one.
